There is power in the name of Jesus, to break every chain.

 This is us.

We are bound by these chains.

When you think of chains what do you think of?

I’m not talking about the physical chains that are used to hold something in place. I’m talking about the spiritual chains that are holding you down.

These could include: cutting, pornography, addictions, drugs, alcohol, anorexia, bulimia. These chains are anything that are holding you back. The secrets that you don’t tell anyone because you are so ashamed of them. But God knows them.

At one point in my life I was bound by these chains. Cutting, eating disorders, just self-hatred in general. The feeling of being worthless and that pit of depression. These things were suffocating me. Like the chains were wrapped around my neck and I was hanging there. It got to a breaking point to where I couldn’t move on. I was stuck there. I had to literally cry out to God and just ask him to break my chains.

There is power in the name of Jesus, to break every chain.”

That is so true.

“2 For I want you to know  how great a  struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, 2 that  their hearts may be encouraged, being  knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of  God’s mystery, which is Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I say this in order  that no one may delude you with plausible arguments. 5 For  though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your  good order and  the firmness of your faith in Christ.” Colossians 2:1-5

I was to find God’s mystery. Meaning, that I want to discover Christ. As you find Christ, your chains disappear because in Him you are made new. Christ has the power to break every chain.

Are your chains broken?

my daughter is held by these same chains. she loves her church youth group and feels the chains once she leaves there and goes to high school. i pray and fast for her and she is trying to overcome this chain. Its a struggle for me as well for her self esteem is not very high. Shes a beautiful girl, but doesnt see herself as that. I believe everything you have said is true. But, how to get her to apply it…
She isnt comfortable in front of a lot of people and therefore limits her worship to youth service only…Please pray for Caylie.

    • I will add her to my prayer list! I am so sorry for such a late reply, I have been bogged down with school work. I have dealt with all of these things and know that it is going to be a struggle as she leaves youth group. School life for me has been hard, but make sure that her foundation is in those people with Godly characteristics and not those who are bad influences. The people who she spends her time with often influences our self esteem and actions. Do you have any specific things other than self esteem issues that I could pray for? I would love to pray and help!

I was thinking in terms of strongholds in the church in reference to this song also. Strongholds of tradition and legalism. what do you think?

    • Well, I think that tradition and morals are a big part of the foundation of the church today. I don’t know if I would really view it as a form of bondage. Now, when someone is going through the motions at church and goes just to get a check on a list then that is a problem. As with the legalism standpoint, I feel like we should have the freedom to worship. We don’t have worship just within a church. I mean, I worship Christ every day through my actions and words. I feel like these strongholds, can only become a problem once it takes us away from the picture of Christ. So yes, that is a pretty cool standpoint. I hope that makes sense.
